UUA COMMON READ

Mistakes and Miracles
Congregations on the Road to Multiculturalism
By Nancy Palmer Jones and Karin Lin

The 2022-2023 UUA Common Read

Members and Friends of VIUF are invited to attend four Zoom sessions to discuss the Common Read. The first ten people who e-mail an acceptance to  will receive a free $22 book hand delivered to your door (if you live on Vashon-Maury Island) and an e-mail with the Zoom link prior to the start.

Every year the Unitarian Universalist Association selects a Common Read for UU churches across America. It is chosen to emphasize current UUA priorities.

The 2022-2023 Common Read shares how five diverse congregations encounter frustrations and disappointments, as well as hope and wonder, once they commit to the journey to create a multicultural, antiracist Beloved Community.

Each chapter ends with questions to reflect on learning and experiences around Beloved Community work and multiculturalism in our own congregation.

The VIUF Social Justice Committee plans to join four 90-minute Zoom meetings offered by Quimper UU Church in Port Townsend. VIUF will have separate “Breakout” discussions to learn about other church experiences. This is currently scheduled to run from 10:00 to 11:30 AM on Thursdays: February 16, March 2, March 16, and March 30 2023. This is our opportunity to learn and work toward shared goals.
